Saturday             April 1, 2017       AT Hike - Bake Oven Knob to Lehigh Gap         Strenuous

A long drive, but the views are worth it! The highest point in Lehigh County is Bake Oven Knob at 1,585 ft, a mass of Tuscarora conglomeratic rocks that rise about 100 feet (30 m) above the main ridge of the Blue Mountains. We meet at Leigh Gap Nature Center and then Shuttle to start at Bake Oven Knob Rd. We hike on the AT going Northward up to the Knob, and continue about 9 miles to Lehigh Gap and the Pulpit.   Shuttle Required

Saturday       April 8, 2017     Peripatetic Perambulation Bethlehem, PA      Moderately Strenuous

Connect all sorts of things including the historic downtown, old factories, bridges, universities, a rail trail and canal towpath all in the small and pleasant city of Bethlehem, PA.  This hike is 8-12 miles at a moderately brisk pace on city streets and park paths.  Bring lunch, snacks and water.  E-mail (preferred) or phone leader no earlier than a week before the hike for meeting time and place.                    Joint Hike.       Awful or dangerous weather cancels.

Sunday                  April 16, 2017         Arden Mine Tour Circular          Strenuous

We will start on the ASB Trail then hike the Old Arden Road which connect with the Nurian, which then connects with the Dunning, and the Island Pond Road to the Boston Mine. From there we will use the Dunning Trail to the end, passing & stopping by more mines on the way. Then we go to Times Square and head North on the Old Surebridge Mine Road to see some more mines. After which we will take the AT back past the Lemon Squeezer. If we have time we will stop by Island Pond on the way. This is a fast pace hike!   Approx 12.0 miles                  Rain will cancel this hike.

From I-87 & I-287 Interchange Exit 15A: Take Rt-17 north about 13 miles to the Arden Valley Road entrance to Harriman State Park on the right. Turn right and proceed mile to parking area on right.  (GPS 41.2654, -74.1535)

Long Week End                  April 21-24, 2017   IHC—AT hikes across PA            Strenuous

3 days of hiking the AT. Stay overnight Fri, 21st, Sat, 22nd and Sun, 23rd near Pottsville PA.

The first 2 days will be Strenuous, (However, not too long a drive to Supper & soft beds), with an easier half day hike on the Monday.  Shuttles required

From Suffern @I-87 & I-287 Interchange Exit 15A: Take Rt-17 about 8 miles north to Rt-17A at light. Turn left (west) on Rt-17A and continue for about 5 mi. (look for hikers crossing sign). The access road to the Parking Area is on the left side of Rt-17A. From Greenwood Lake, NY: Travel 3 miles east on Rt-17A to the parking area access road on the right. GPS (41.2466,-74.2474)
