Sunday          April 7, 2019            Johnsontown Circular            Moderately Strenuous

We will start on the Blue Disc and head north over Almost Perpendicular. Then go over to Claudius Smith’s Den, then head over to Lake Skenonto and have lunch. Then we will find some old trails to return on.

From Suffern @ I-87 & I-287N Interchange Exit 15A: Take R-17 north 4.5 miles, to Seven Lakes Dr., just north of Sloatsburg, NY. Turn right onto Seven Lakes Dr. and proceed mile to Johnsontown Road on the left after underpass. Follow road about 2 miles to the circle at the end.  (GPS 41.1799, -74.1638)

Come along for this strenuous work out in Harriman guaranteed to warm you up. This hike is 8 miles with a bunch of

steep ascents, two swamps, and a great view of the emerald city (on a clear day) Rain or Foul Weather cancels this hike.

From Suffern @ I-87 & I-287 Interchange Exit 15: Take Rt-17 north 4 miles, to Seven Lakes Drive, just north of Sloatsburg, NY.  Turn right onto Seven Lakes Dr; go 4 miles. The “Boat Launch Parking” is on the left. (Small Sign, Small Road)

Saturday       April 20, 2019         Appalachian Trail         Moderately Strenuous

AT#8 – Rt-94 to Longhouse Dr.

We start this 7.3 mi hike up the escarpment with the famous Stairway to Heaven built by volunteers. Excellent views are possible from the stone stairs. We skirt the busy part of Waywayanda Park while passing by the AT shelter, using roads built in the mining days. Shuttle Required

Meet 9:00 AM        Shopping Ctr/Hewitt PO; 1938 Union Valley Rd (Greenwood Lk. Tpk), Hewitt, NJ 07421

From I-287 Exit 55 (Rt-511): Go north on Ringwood Ave. (name changes to Greenwood Lake Tpk.) about 14 miles to Lakeside Rd. at south end of Greenwood Lake. Continue straight-ahead block to shopping center on left. (GPS 41.1542, -74.3538)

From Rt-23 north: Right exit onto Union Valley Rd. (Rt-513). Then go northeast 7 miles to the traffic light in the center of West Milford by Shoprite. Turn left following Union Valley Rd (Rt-513) at 1.4 mi. bear right (Do not go up White Rd.). Continue straight on Union Valley Rd (Rt-513) mi. to intersection of Rt-511 (Greenwood Lake Tpk.). The shopping center is block on right.

Sunday      April 28, 2019      Sterling Ridge Trail Maintenance       Moderately Strenuous

This trip cancelled due to rain forcast. 4/27/19

The club maintains the entire length of the Sterling Ridge Trail. Today we work on the North End. Come help the club with Spring Trail maintenance! Bring your lunch, water, clippers and good working gloves. If you do not have clippers you can use the tools provided by the club.          Rain Date Saturday, May 4, 2019

Meet:  9:00 a.m.     North End Sterling Ridge Trail Parking, 798 Minturn Bridge Rd (Rt-17A), Monroe, NY 10950

From Suffern @I-87 & I-287 Interchange Exit 15A: Take Rt-17 about 8 miles north to Rt-17A at light. Turn left (west) on Rt-17A and continue for about 5 mi. (look for hikers crossing sign). The access road to the Parking Area is on the left side of Rt-17A.

From Greenwood Lake, NY: Travel 3 miles east on Rt-17A to the parking area access road on the right.

Enter slowly and carefully. There are many large potholes in the access road. GPS Turnoff (41.2306, -74.2608) Lot (41.2297, -74.2606)
