Let’s enjoy an interesting winter hike of 6 to 8 miles in this beautiful nature preserve in Sussex County. Soup and dessert at the treehouse after the hike is a strong possibility!

Meet: 9:00 AM    Whittingham Wildlife Management Area, Fredon - Springdale Rd; Newton, NJ 07860

From I-80, Exit 25: Take Rt-206 North for about 8 miles. Turn left on Rt-618 (Fredon - Springdale Rd.) for 1 mile where you will see Whittingham Parking on your left.

 

Sunday        January 10, 2010             Penn Towpath 8 miles                                                Moderately Strenuous

Enjoy broad open views over the Delaware River as we hike north from Durham Furnace to Wy-Hit-Tuk County park. Shuttle Required       

Rain or poor driving conditions cancels.

Meet: 9:00 AM    Wy-Hit-Tuk County Park, Rt-611, Easton, PA 18042

Take I-78 West over the Delaware, Pay Toll: Take Exit 75 for PA-611 toward Easton/Philadelphia. At end of ramp, turn left (south) onto Morgan Hill Rd. Proceed 0.1 mi. (over I-78) to next left at Cedarville Rd. Drive 1.5 mi. on Cedarville Rd to PA-611. Right on PA-611 south 1.3 miles. Wy-Hit-Tuk Park entrance on left.

 

Sunday        January 17, 2010             Round Valley Reservoir                                             Moderately Strenuous

We will take the rugged Cushetunk Trail [red] nearly around the reservoir. Views of reservoir and a good work out to warm you up.         Rain or Foul Weather cancels this hike.

Meet: 9:00 AM    Round Valley State Park, (S. Parking), 1220 Lebanon Stanton Rd (Rt-629), Lebanon, NJ 08833

From I-78 Exit 20A: Merge onto Cokesbury Rd southbound and continue 0.3 mi to Rt-22. Turn right (West)and drive 0.7 mi. to right jug handle toward Round Valley Access Rd . Continue southbound 1.7 mi and to Park entrance on left. Look for Ranger station and follow signs to South Parking Lot with year round rest rooms.

Sunday        January 24, 2010             Kittatinny Valley X-Ski Trip or hike                    Moderately Strenuous

We will either X-Ski along the Sussex Branch Trail, if the snow conditions warrant, or have a hike in Kittatinny Valley Park if there is poor snow conditions. Call if in doubt about conditions.

From I-80 W Exit 25: Follow Rt-206 N about 8 miles through Andover to Goodale Rd. on the right. (About ½ mile north of Limecrest Rd.) Drive on narrow Goodale Rd. for 1 mile. Parking is in big lot on right side.

 

Sunday        January 31, 2010             Ramapo Mountain State Park                                    Moderately Strenuous

We will be using the Hoeferlin Memorial Trail, Cannonball Trail (over I-287) and other routes to visit Ramapo Lake on this Winter hike. Ice fishermen yes, but no Water Lilies.

Stabilizers may be required and heavy snow cancels the hike.         Shuttle Required

From I-287 Exit 57: Take Skyline Drive north towards Ringwood. Parking area is on the left at the top of the mountain about 1.3 miles from exit ramp. We will shuttle to start of hike.
