Saturday      May 4, 2019      Sterling Ridge Trail Maintenance       Moderately Strenuous

This trip added due to rain out of originally scheduled date of April 28, 2019.

The club maintains the entire length of the Sterling Ridge Trail. Today we work on the North End. Come help the club with Spring Trail maintenance! Bring your lunch, water, clippers and good working gloves. If you do not have clippers you can use the tools provided by the club.

Meet:  9:00 a.m.     North End Sterling Ridge Trail Parking, 798 Minturn Bridge Rd (Rt-17A), Monroe, NY 10950

From Suffern @I-87 & I-287 Interchange Exit 15A: Take Rt-17 about 8 miles north to Rt-17A at light. Turn left (west) on Rt-17A and continue for about 5 mi. (look for hikers crossing sign). The access road to the Parking Area is on the left side of Rt-17A.

From Greenwood Lake, NY: Travel 3 miles east on Rt-17A to the parking area access road on the right.

Enter slowly and carefully. There are many large potholes in the access road. GPS Turnoff (41.2306, -74.2608) Lot (41.2297, -74.2606)

Sunday          May 5, 2019              Black Rock Forest            Moderately Strenuous

Come and enjoy the great Mt. Misery/Hill of Pines/Rattlesnake Hill/Black Rock Mountain loop hike with beautiful views, picturesque stream, cascades and waterfalls. Circuit Hike about 7.5 miles

Meet: 9:00 AM       Black Rock Forest Reservoir Parking, 80 Reservoir Rd, Cornwall, NY 12518

From Palisades Interstate Parkway Northbound: Continue north to its northern terminus at the Bear Mountain Bridge and continue north on US-9W for 8.8 miles. About half a mile after passing a parking area marked with a blue sign, turn right onto Mountain Road. Immediately, turn right again and proceed through a very narrow underpass beneath US-9W (large vehicles may not fit in this underpass). Continue ahead for 0.2 mile to the Parking Area on the right side of the road, just before a locked gate.  GPS (41.4187, -74.0100)

From I-87 Exit 16 Harriman/Woodbury Commons: After tollbooths stay to right for first exit, Woodbury & Rt-32. Take Rt-32 north about 7 miles to Angola Rd (Rt-65) on the right (Just before Schunemunk turnoff on left.) Follow Angola Rd. 2.7 mi to the intersection with Rt-9W. Go south on Rt-9W 1.6 mi to turnoff marked Black Rock Forest. Continue ahead for 0.2 mile to the Parking Area.


Friday May 10, 2019 Canoe—Split Rock Reservoir Paddle

The launch area can be challenging, but this reservoir is worth the effort. Kayak wheels will be available; we can help each other get the boats down and back up. Split Rock is a 625-acre body of water located on wooded property on the borders of Rockaway Township and Kinnelon. Anticipate possible wind. Bring lunch. We will find a place to eat while paddling. A PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE MUST BE WORN. Joint with TSR.

Meet: 10:00 AM Split Rock Reservoir Car Top Boat Launch, 345 Split Rock Road, Boonton Twp, NJ 07005.

From I-80 Exit 37: Go north on Green Pond Rd for about 6.5 miles. Opposite the Marcella Community Center (at a Firehouse sign) tum right onto Upper Hibemia Rd. Go l mile to a fork/intersection and turn LEFT onto Split Rock Rd (do not follow the NO OUTLET sign). The road turns to dirt. Follow the road over the dam and look on the lett for the parking lot. Sunday          May 12, 2019             Tuxedo Circular                     Moderately Strenuous

We will head north on the R-D towards Parker Cabin Mtn. After that whatever trails we can find that will eventually lead us back to Tuxedo.                                                                Rain or Foul Weather cancels this hike.

From Suffern @ I-87 & I-287 Interchange Exit 15A: Take R-17 about 6.5 miles north to Tuxedo. Just past the Tuxedo train station, turn right on East Village Rd, cross the tracks and turn left into the large parking lot which is free on weekends.

#9 – Longhouse Dr. to Mt Peter

This 8-mile section follows the ridge of Bellvale Mt. with many beautiful views over Greenwood Lake. We skirt Surprise lake along the way crossing into NY State. This route has some steep ups & downs along the way over Prospect Rock to Mt Peter. Shuttle Required

From I-287 Exit 55 (Rt-511): Go north on Ringwood Ave. (name changes to Greenwood Lake Tpk.) about 14 miles to Lakeside Rd. (Rt-511) at south end of Greenwood Lake. Take Lakeside north 6.5 mi thru Greenwood Lake Village to intersection of Rt-17A. Take Rt-17A up toward Warwick 1.9 mi to Mt. Peter. AT Parking is at the large lot on the left. From Suffern @ I-87 & I-287 Interchange Exit 15: Take Rt-17 north 8.5 mi to exit for Rt-17A. Follow Rt-17A west for 7 mi to Greenwood Lake Village. Continue on Rt-17A up toward Warwick 1.9 mi to Mt. Peter. AT Parking is at the large lot on the left.

Note! If late or lost see below!

We will be parking some cars at the AT Parking 95 Continental Road (Rt-17A), Warwick, NY 10990

and shuttle to the start from the north using Rt-17A and then Brady Rd.

After the shuttle we will start at the AT Parking, 107 Longhouse Dr, Hewitt, NJ 07421 GPS (41.1958, -74.3709)


Sunday          May 26, 2019       Stoke State Forest Blue Mountain Loop #3           Moderately Strenuous

Today we will hike the northern end of the new Blue Mountain Loop that was rained out last year. This is the completion of the Loop.  Approximate 8.0 Miles   Rain, or Foul Weather cancels this hike.   Shuttle Required to Steam Mill Parking Area for start of hike.

From I-80 West Exit 34B: Take Rt-15 north about 17 mi. to Rt-206 (Rt-15 ends). Continue straight on Rt-206 north 6+ mi. towards

Culvers Gap and AT trail crossing sign. Proceed an additional mi. and the Park Entrance is on the right off Rt-206.
