Sunday        October 2, 2011              A Different Reeves Meadow Circular                 Moderately Strenuous

We will start out on the Seven Hills trail going to Ramapo Torne. Then the HTS and Raccoon Brook over to Pine Meadow Lake. Then head back to Reeves Meadow Visitor Center by some other trails.

                              Rain or Foul Weather cancels this hike.

From Suffern @ I-87N & I-287 Interchange Exit 15A: Take Rt-17 North 4 miles to traffic light for Seven Lakes Dr. just north of Sloatsburg, NY. Turn right and proceed east on Seven Lakes Dr. 1 miles to Reeves Meadow Visitor Center on right, or park across the street.

Saturday                October 8, 2011    Lucy Mercer Memorial Hike                                    Strenuous

Around 10 miles on roads and trails – likely some substantial ups and downs. Walk in and near Allamuchy Mountain State Park connecting sites associated with the life (and death) of Lucy Mercer Rutherfurd – secretary to Eleanor and mistress to Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Sunday        October 16, 2011            The Timp from Jones Point   Experienced Hikers Only!       Very Strenuous

High above the Hudson River is the Timp. After a climb up the R-D trail and over Bald Mountain  we will stop on the top of the Timp for lunch. This is one of the greatest lunch spots, it includes a dramatic 270 panorama. We return via the
T-T, and the never completed Dunderberg Railway and tunnels, to the cars.   Rain or Foul weather will cancel this hike.

From Palisades Parkway northbound: Take Parkway to its end at the Bear Mountain Bridge Circle and Rt-9W. (about 18 miles north of New York State Thruway) Go south (right) on Rt-9W for about 4 miles to the parking area along southbound side of Rt-9W, opposite the old road to Jones Point.

 
Sunday October 23, 2011                   IHC Trail Clearing on Schunemunk Mt.             Moderately Strenuous

The club maintains this section of the Long Path, as well as the Lower Jessup Trail. Please come and help us maintain these trails! Bring your lunch, water, clippers and good working gloves. If you do not have clippers you can use the tools provided by the club.       Rain will cancel and postpone to Sunday October 30, 2011

From I-87 Exit 16 Harriman/Woodbury Commons: After tollbooths stay to right for first exit, Woodbury & Rt-32. Take Rt-32 north about 7 miles to Pleasant Hill Road, (Black Rock Hunting Club sign on left), Mountainville, NY. Turn left, go to first road (Taylor Road) turn left again, proceed to parking lot on right side of road after crossing over thruway.

From Rt-17: Travel north on Rt-17 to Rt-32 in Harriman, NY. Take Rt-32 north 8 miles to Pleasant Hill Road. See above.

Saturday            October 29, 2011            Minnewaska to Gertrude’s Nose and Return             Moderately Strenuous

This hike of about 8 miles will start from Lake Minnewaska parking lot going to and around Gertrude’s Nose. Then return via Millbrook Mtn. Trail for the view and shear cliffs. Parking fee $8 per car

Meet: 8:00 AM Harriman RR Station, Route 17, Arden, NY 10910

From the South, @I-87N & I-287 Exit 15A: Take Rt-17 North 15 mi. The Commuter Lot is on the northbound side (right) of Rt-17.

From the North, NYS Thruway Exit 16: Proceed south on Rt-17 about 2 miles to Commuter Lot on the left side.

Alternate Meeting Point: at Minnewaska SP parking at the Lake or upper parking lot at 9:30 AM.

I-87 North (New York State Thruway) to Exit 18. Turn left onto NY 299 (Main St) and follow through New Paltz about 7.5 miles to right turn onto US 44/ 55. Proceed 4.4 miles to Park entrance on left. Lake parking (or upper parking lot) Proceed straight ahead from the toll booth up the hill for about 0.7 miles.
