Interstate Hiking Club Minutes – Annual Meeting June 2, 2019

 

The President, Guy Percival, called the meeting to order at 9:08 am. The President motioned to accept the minutes of the 2018 Annual meeting.  Jim Canfield accepted and Guy Percival seconded.  All in favor.

 

Members Present Were: -

Carolyn Canfield, Roy Williams, Marguerite La Corte, Steven Rikon, Guy Percival, George Carfagno, T. J. Rubino, Jennifer Percival, James Canfield, Charles Kientzler, Neli Cohen, Udi Cohen, Daniel Cohen, Sarie van Niekerk, Shirley Weldon, Paul Ferlazzo, Peter Germann and Helga Van Eckert (guest of George Carfagno).

 

Secretary’s Report –

The Secretary, Marguerite La Corte, read the hike statistics as well as the event cancellations due to poor weather conditions, and also announced the Top Ten Event Attendees.  Steve Rikon motioned to accept the Secretary’s Report and Roy Williams seconded.  All in Favor.

 

Treasurer’s Report –

The Treasurer, Charles Kientzler, reported that the Club had some loss in membership.  But, this year things are looking up.  The Club’s insurance premium did not go up.  We received a donation from the Peter Beck Family in the amount of $300.00.  The Tri-State Ramblers received a smaller gift this year.  We spent the same amount of money in donations.  The Trail Conference  received $25.00 less this year.  If we ignore the $300.00 gift we have a $300.00 gain.  Roy Williams motioned to accept the Treasurer’s Report and Neli Cohen seconded.  All in Favor.

 

Trails Report –

The Trail’s Chair, Sarie van Niekerk, reported that necessary cleaning and clearing of blow downs was done on Schunemunk.  Many branches came down on the Sterling Ridge and the volunteers had to work in the snow.  We need more maintainers to help with trail cleaning and clearing especially on the Sterling Ridge.  Guy Percival motioned to accept the Trails Report and Roy Williams seconded.  All in Favor.

 

Entertainment Report –

The Entertainment Chair, Paul Ferlazzo, announced that he will organize a holiday part in a restaurant around Christmas time.  Roy Williams motioned to accept the Entertainment Report and Neli Cohen seconded.  All in Favor.

 

President’s Report –

The President, Guy Percival, thanked everyone who volunteered to lead hikes.  We could use more help with trail maintenance.  The President advised we picked-up a new member during one of the trail maintenance events.  Sarie van Niekerk motions to accept the President’s Report and Jennifer Percival seconded.  All in Favor.

 

Old Business –

James Canfield advised he audited the Treasurer’s books last year.

 

Nominating Committee Report –

The Nominating Committee recommends the slate of Officers for the 2019-2020 year as follows: Guy Percival – President, Charles Kientzler – Treasurer, Sarie van Niekerk – Trails Chair, Marguerite La Corte – Secretary, Paul Ferlazzo – Entertainment Chair.  James Canfield will continue to be the IHC Web Master.  Roy Williams motioned to accept the slate of Officers and Steven Rikon seconded.  All in Favor.

New Officers Assumed Their Duties.

New Business –

The President announced the following trips/events are coming up - the Catskill Long Path trip;  Mac’s hike and swim; the Annual Hike and Picnic and Charles Kientzler’s house, the biking trip on the Erie Canal.  Paul Ferlazzo announced he will be leading 9 more hikes on the AT; the week in Acadia National Park. 

The Treasurer, Charles Kientzler, spoke about the $300.00 gift from the Peter Beck Family.  Sarie van Niekerk, the Trails Chair, announced that the Club could use some new equipment.  Charles Kientzler advised this should come out of Club dues.  Roy Williams suggested to save half of the amount and contribute the rest.  Charles Kientzler advised that $150.00 will remain in the Treasury and $50.00 will be contributed to each of the following organizations; the AT Conservancy, Scenic Hudson, and the N.J. Conservation Foundation.

Charles Kientzler advised that the insurance the Club carries is mainly for leaders and Officers so that they are covered for liability. 

 

James Canfield, the IHC Web Master, advised that if there are any changes to please notify him and he will make the change on the IHC website.

 

Since there was no further New Business to discuss, Roy Williams motioned to adjourn the meeting and Guy Percival seconded.  All in Favor.
