November 3, 2024 Hike the
Whittemore Nature Preserve Moderate
This is a 6.0 mi. loop hike around fields,
the Rockaway creek and woods in Whittemore Conservation center. It is hilly and
pretty along the river. We will start from a field parking lot along Rockaway
Road.

From I-287 & I-78 intersection: Take I-78 westward 5.6 mi to Exit-24 @
Oldwick Road. Exit and drive North along Oldwick Rd. 0.35 mi. Make a left on
Rockaway Road then the first right into a grass parking lot. GPS Meeting

November 10, 2024 Splitrock Reservoir Circuitous Loop Strenuous
This hike is around the entire Reservoir. We start out
clockwise along the 4 Birds Trail to the end of the Reservoir. Then we return
on the Splitrock Loop trail. There are good views along the waterfront and
Indian Cliffs. It's a total of 11 miles,

Meet: 8:30 AM Split Rock Reservoir Parking Lot; 345 Split Rock Road,
Boonton Twp. NJ 07005
From I-80 Exit 37 Rockaway/Hibernia: Go north on Green Pond Rd. (Rt-513)
toward Hibernia. At about 6.5 miles turn right at the Marcella Firehouse sign.
This is Upper Hibernia Rd. Continue 2 mi. to fork in the road. Bear left onto
Split Rock Rd. After the pavement ends keep going over the dam. The new
fisherman's boat launch parking lot is about 1/8 mile on the left after the
dam.
From I-287 Exit 52, (Rt-23): Take Rt-23 North 9.5 mi to right
Jughandle turn at light for Clinton Rd, Turn Left and cross over to Rt-23
South. Drive south 0.2 mi to Green Pond Rd on the right. Drive south on Green
Pond Rd. 5.2 mi to Upper Hibernia Rd. Turn left onto Upper Hibernia Rd. and
continue 2 mi. to fork in the road. Bear left onto Split Rock Rd. After the
pavement ends keep going over the dam. The new fisherman's boat launch parking
lot is about 0.2 mile on the left after the dam. Meet at 8:30; Start at 9:00 GPS (40.9625, -74.4575)
Sunday, November 17, 2024 Jungle Habitat and Horse Pond Mt. Strenuous
We'll
start this hike by exploring the site of the old Jungle Habit Park from the
1970s. The animals are long gone, but some remnants of the exhibits still
exist. Then we'll explore Norvin Green, taking the Blue (Tapawingo) and
White (Overlook Rock) trails to Overlook Rock, and then returning via the
Yellow, Orange, Blue and Green trails, passing more views on Horse Pond
Mountain along the way. Distance: 9 miles

From I-287 Exit 55: Take Rt-511 (Ringwood
Ave.) north 12 mi. (becomes Greenwood Tpk) At junction of Marshall Hill Rd. and
Greenwood Tpk take the Left Fork onto Marshall Hill Rd and continue 300 ft to
Aiirport Rd. on the left. (Greenwood Lake Airport Sign) Drive ½ mi to fork in
the road. Take Left road and continue to Hiker Parking Lot. GPS (41.1232,-74.3466)

24, 2024 Hike Fort Nonsense Strenuous
We will meet at Jockey Hollow visitor’s center and leave
cars. Shuttle the remaining cars to Fort Nonsense and hike back via the
Patriots Path. 10 miles with first 6 miles flat along the old Rockabye railway.
Shuttle required.

From I-287 Exit
30: Take N. Maple northward 0.1 mi to Rt-202 at light. Go right onto Rt-202
Northbound and drive 1.75 mi to the light at Tempe Wick Rd. Take a left onto
Tempe Wick Rd. and continue 1.5 mi to Park Entrance at Jocky Hollow Rd. on the
right. Turn into the Park and continue 0.4 mi to Visitors Center Parking lot
(by the flagpole). Very large Parking Lot!
Park and then meet by the Flag Pole.
